In Paris, markets are a Big Deal

It is quintessentially French to spend a Sunday morning at a market. This last Sunday was no exception. I went to my first vide grenier (it’s like a huge garage sale held in different locations each weekend) and it was packed. I have always been a fan of shopping for second hand furniture and clothes, so I was excited to see what everyone there had to offer. I must have spent at least 3 hours rummaging through everything. One man’s trash, another man’s treasure, right?!

This market was literally like peering into an elderly person’s apartment and they’ve kept everything from their life and travels. People were selling everything from vintage glassware, old photos; art deco vases- the list is virtually endless.

I found some great stuff. I’m sure that I could have made some better deals if my French wasn’t so limited. But I have to say I’
ve become pretty awesome at miming. A couple of gestures of “hmm, too much, I’ll think about it,” usually got them to drop the price a euro or two.

A couple of my finds:

set of 6 for 4 Euro!
My new bag for 4 Euro.. I just can't justify spending so much on a bag!

These I bought from a couple of older French women selling all early 20th century jewelry. I can just imagine them being flappers in their day..
