Midnight Ridazz :: Downtown LA :: The Ride With No Name

I did my first Midnight Ridazz Ride last week!! What's Midnight Ridazz? Well... its sort of an underground bike club that sets up fun rides all over Los Angeles, usually in the late of late nights. For example, we did the "Ride with No Name," and rode from Downtown LA to somewhere in the City of Commerce and back again. 9pm to 3am somehow was occupied riding.

Anyway, if you are into biking, you gotta do it sometime. I will definitely go again!

My House?

G and Eneida are the best. I basically have two dates to wherever I go. Last weekend, I opted to join them on their romp to SUPER HOLLYWOOD CLUB, MY HOUSE. While clubs are definitely NOT my scene, I thought I'd give it the old college try and check it out.

Well, besides pushy bouncers, extremely unattractive naked women, and today's top 40, I'd say it was alright. I had some good company and got a couple dances in, oh and it was all completely free... nice.

Afterwards, we had some late night mexican food courtesy of EL GRAN BURRITO on Santa Monica and Vermont.

Anyway, check out the photos.

I swear my eyes are actually open.

The Search for Drums ... LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!

As you may or may not know, I will be directing a music video next month for UK band, Sky Larkin for their debut album here in the U.S. The track is awesome and I, as well as Jed and Christina (my Executive Producers from my Music Video side, Maneater) have been hard at work putting the video together... from locations, to wardrobe, to budget, to absolutely everything... the past couple of weeks have been hectic and we have just about two weeks to be completely ready.

That said, we continue to search for the perfect location... we did have some good news today however. We got all the instruments! woo! Since the concept of the video requires we more or less trash the instruments, we had to purchase our own set for the music video. Below are some photos of our little hunt.

Jed takes a bite out of music.
We found the perfect drum.
I'm in love.
Testing the products.
Not sure what they are looking at....

Photography Fun :: Weird Places

So currently, Jed, Christina, and myself have been location scouting for the music video I booked. It's a long and hard process, but it does have its perks. Other than finally finding our ideal place, the scout can bring you to weird and funny places you have never seen before.

We have been up and down southern California. Below is just a sample of the coolness... oh and I candid I took of Christina. Thanks guys!

Photography Fun :: Portrait; Cher

If you have been following my blog, or my facebook, or my other website, then you know I have been on a photography frenzy these past couple of months. Most of the photography of recent has been portraiture and I get comments every now and then that some of the photographs are not very flattering images of my subjects.

That said, I am not necessarily interested in taking "beautiful" photos of people in the shallow sense. I am actually much more interested in taking photos of people when they have something to say... or something to hide.  In fact most recently, I have been asking to take photos of people when they absolutely do not want their photo taken--whether it be because of their emotional state, or what have you.

Anyway, this is a photo I took of my friend Cher recently. Enjoi.

Photography Fun :: Self Portrait, and 2 newbies

Took some quick portraits of my friend Kristle and my buddy Charles.

I changed up the lighting setup from the other portraits. These tend to pop a bit more. I feel like the previous portraits have a much more natural feeling to them. For these photos instead of using the strobes and shooting at f22, I shot at about half the aperture and used continuous lighting with daylight balanced fluorescents. I'm not sure what the exact effect is really, but it definitely feels much more dramatic. The skin tends to shine a bit more and light up.

Anyway, I was just experimenting. I want to continue to try different things. Below are the photos.

Here is Kristle. She was completely shy, but I think I got a fun shot of her.
Ok, so here is my self portrait. I tend to not like any photos of myself (like most people, I'm sure) but I thought this was interesting. My skin is full of craziness, but I'm all about trying to look at people in a very raw manner. In that sense, I can't look much raw-er than this.
Charles looks like a rockstar. What's nice about the continuous lighting and the lower aperture is that I can control the focus a bit more. It's nice to hone in on Charle's eyes here and slowly drift the focus backwards.
